Submarine Simulator Project: H.M. Naval Base Clyde

Hebble Hydraulics upgraded the hydraulic systems for the Astute Submarine trainer in Scotland.

Our engineers supplied and installed three new 120-litre and one new 40-litre Nacol top-loading bladder accumulators, adding new isolation valves.

We overhauled, tested, and recertified the existing accumulators at our Huddersfield workshops. Refitted with new bladders, these now serve as on-site backup spares.

To meet strict naval cleanliness standards, we flushed the accumulators to surpass ISO 4406 1999 16-14-11. Hebble also designed and built a custom storage stand to keep the refurbished spares safe and ready for use.

Turret Lift Cylinder Overhaul

This 4.5-ton, 500mm bore cylinder produces 432 tonnes of force to lift a steelworks turret. As one of four critical units, it underwent a full heavy-duty overhaul:

Strip down & Inspection: Disassembled to check for wear and structural straightness.

Refurbishment: Rod re-chromed and the 500mm bore precision-honed to remove scoring.

Sealing: Fitted with high-temperature, slag-resistant seals and a metallic scraper.

Testing: Hydro-tested past its 216 bar (3,130 PSI) working pressure to ensure zero leakage.

Reengineered Eight-Stage Flow Divider

Consisting of eight bolted cylinders, this flow divider synchronizes steelworks equipment by delivering equal oil volumes from the annulus ports when full bore ports are pressurized. Following a catastrophic failure, the unit was rebuilt with new barrels, pistons, bolted flanges, and piston rods. To secure critical plant output, the original design and control system were modified to ensure long-term, trouble-free service.
